Spicy Guacamole Hummus

Yield: serves 2 to 3


  • 1 can chickpeas (15 oz), drained and rinsed
  • 3 medium avocados
  • 1-2 tsp tahini
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 jalapeño, minced (seeds removed for milder hummus)
  • juice of 1 large lime
  • salt and pepper, to taste


  1. Pulse the chickpeas in a food processor or blender until they are coarsely chopped. Add the onion powder, cayenne pepper, tahini, cumin, lime, salt and pepper. Pulse a few more times until the ingredients are well mixed.
  2. Scoop the chickpea blend into a large bowl. Add the avocado, jalapeño and cilantro. Lightly mash the avocado with a fork while stirring all ingredients together.
  3. Serve with chips or toasted bread.
